JEWELLERY CARE INSTRUCTION

Each piece of jewellery from Touch of Venus Jewellery has been meticulously handcrafted and prepared. We use only the finest of materials in our designs including silver, 925, silver 999, 24ct gold finish, or rose gold, original Swarovski crystals and pearls, naural pearls, Preciosa glass and semi-precious gemstones like Venetian art Glass, Amber, Agate etc

Jewellery is a truly special accessory. Whether it’s a sentimental piece or just something you love, you want to keep your jewellery looking at its best lustre and as good as new. Here with our tips we help you do just that. Take a look at our top tips for caring for your jewellery at home.

Day-to-day Care & General Tips:

  • Store your jewellery in a clean, dry place

  • Protect your jewellery in cotton bags or boxes when not in use.

  • Don't jumble pieces together as they can scratch each other and cause chipping

  • Keep them stored in separate boxes or in pieces of tissue paper

  • Visit your local Jeweller store at least once a year in order to have all your jewellery professionally cleaned and checked for general wear and tear

  • Do not wear when sleeping.

  • Do not spray perfume directly on beads, pearls or metals.

  • Avoid contact with water.

  • Clean with a soft damp soaped cloth & dry immediately.

  • Sterling silver will tarnish over time and with use. Clean with a sterling silver jewellery cloth. 

  • Do not use jewellery cleaner or abrasive on pearls.

  • Always put pearls on after your make up.

  • Remove pearls before you apply body creams, or bathe.

  • Pearl necklaces and bracelets should be restrung periodical

Cleaning Jewellery

Jewellery can become dirty from natural skin oils and from dirt in the atmosphere. Regularly cleaning jewellery will help to keep it looking as gorgeous as the day it was purchased. Wearing pearls keeps them lustrous and iridescent as the natural oils from you skin with give them shine. To ensure the fine lust-re of your piece over time, follow these guidelines:

Diamonds

A clean diamond has a beautiful fire and a brilliant sparkle. Everyday products such as skin cream, soap, oils and cosmetics can dull your diamond’s natural radiance. Keep your diamond clean and gleaming.

Here are some tips on how to keep your diamond at its best:

Cleaning Solution: Use recommended liquid jewellery cleaning solution, which is available in all jewellery stores. The liquid cleaner is the ideal home-solution to keeping your diamond as beautiful as they day you bought it.

Mild Detergent Bowl: Make up a small bowl of warm water and a mild cleaning detergent –  washing up liquid or liquid soap. Place your diamond jewellery into the bowl and use a small soft toothbrush to gently clean the jewellery. Rinse the jewellery thoroughly after cleaning and pat dry with a Gold and Diamond Cloth, or a soft lint-free cloth.

Gold

To preserve the lustre of your gold jewellery, avoid exposure to household bleach and other cleaning products, which will quickly cause gold to discolour and possibly disintegrate. We recommend that you store your gold jewellery in a safe place when engaging in these activities:

  • Household and outdoor chores (i.e., cleaning and gardening)

  • Showering, bathing or swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean

  • Using lotion, hair products, fragrances and other cosmetics

  • Exercising at the gym or during contact sports

  • Preparing meals

Here are some tips on how to clean and keep your Gold Jewellery clean and looking new.

Gold Polishing Cloth: In order to restore the lustre of your gold jewellery, you may simply use a proffesional gold polishing cloth to polish the metal, which should produce a lovely shine. Jewellery Polishing cloths are also available in our Boutique specially designed to remove surface dirt from gold, while restoring sparkle. Alternatively, you may use a simple lint-free cloth which will also help re-shine the gold.

Cleaning Solution: The Gold and Diamond Jewellery Professional Cleaner is probably the best home-solution for cleaning your gold and platinum jewellery. Specially designed to remove dirt from the metal and any diamonds or stones set in the jewellery, it is fast, effective and is available in all jewellery stores. (Not suitable for gold plated items).

Mild Detergent Bowl: If you do not have a Gold and Diamond Jewellery Cleaner, you may make your own home solution. Simply mix a mild cleaning detergent such as washing liquid or liquid hand soap to luke-warm water to create a sudsy solution. Immerse the jewellery in the solution and use a soft brush to gently clean the jewellery. Rinse under fresh water, and pat dry using a lint-free cloth.

Buff and Polish: Gold jewellery, especially gold rings, can become scratched due to daily wear. In order to restore your rings’ original lustre have your ring buffed and polished by our goldsmiths.

White Gold

All cleaning tips suggested for cleaning Gold can be applied to White Gold. However, your white gold rings will need additional polishing care as the rhodium plating which gives the metal its white sparkle will naturally wear away from daily wear.

Platinum popular in rings

Lint-Free Cloth: The surface of your Platinum ring may look dull or dirty from every day wear. Use a lint-free cloth to remove the dirt and restore the Platinum lustre to your ring.

Buff and Polish: Your platinum ring will eventually become scratched due to regular wear. In order to restore your rings’ original lustre have your ring buffed and polished by our goldsmiths. Simply visit at any one of our stores where any member of our team will be happy to organise this.

Lint-Free Cloth: The surface of your Palladium ring may look dull or dirty from daily wear. Use a lint-free cloth to remove the dirt and restore the lustre to your ring.

Palladium popular in rings

Lint-Free Cloth: The surface of your Palladium may look dull or dirty from every day wear. Use a lint-free cloth to remove the dirt and restore the Platinum lustre to your ring.

Silver

Sterling Silver reacts to sulphur dioxide in the air, and naturally discolours because of this reaction however this is normal and can be easily rectified.

Cleaning Solution: The Sterling Silver Jewellery Professional Cleaner is probably the best home-solution to cleaning your Silver jewellery. This liquid has been specially designed to remove oxidation or discoloration from the metal, and to remove dirt from any stones set in the jewellery. Cleaning solution is fast, effective, and affordable. This solution will restore your silvers’ original colour and sparkle. (Not suitable for silver plated items).

Note: It is not recommended that pre-oxidized jewellery (such as Pandora) is cleaned in a de-oxidation solution. 

Silver Polishing Cloth: In order to restore the lustre of your Silver jewellery, you may simply use a Silver polishing cloth on the metal which should produce a lovely shine. Our Silver Polishing cloths have a unique solution embedded in them, specially fashioned to remove surface dirt while restoring sparkle. Polishing cloths are available from Touch of Venus Jewellery.

Mild Detergent Bowl: If you do not have a Sterling Silver Jewellery Cleaner, you may make your own home solution. Simply mix a mild cleaning detergent such as washing liquid or liquid hand soap to luke-warm water to create a sudsy solution. Immerse the jewellery in the solution and use a soft brush to gently clean the jewellery. Rinse under fresh water, and pat dry using a lint-free cloth. This solution is effective in cleaning pre-oxidized items, such as Pandora.

Note: This option is far less effective in removing oxidation.

Gold Plated / Silver Plated

Gold and silver plated items can be cares for in the same manner. Use a lint-free cloth to remove any surface dirt from the item and to polish the metal. Do not use liquid solutions to clean plated jewellery, as to do so may remove the plating.

Ceramic and Stainless Steel

Though both materials have different properties and features, the care for both are similar. Avoid contact with glass and metal surfaces which could purposely scratch the material. Store the item separately in its own watch or jewellery box.

To clean Ceramic or Stainless Steel, a simple lint-free cloth is recommended. You may also like to use a small dry to remove any dirt that has gathered in the bracelet of the watch. Do not use jewellery solutions or liquids on these materials.

Murano Beads

Murano beads require care, just as other materials. It is important to avoid contact with other glass surface to avoid scratching or damaging. Do not use silver cleaner on the beads as to do so may have a negative effect on the glass surface, or colour. We recommend using a warm water solution to clean your beads – suitable for the Sterling Silver inner bead too.

Immerse the jewellery in the solution and use a soft brush to gently clean the jewellery. Rinse under fresh water, and pat dry using a lint-free cloth.

 

Leather

One should never clean a leather bracelet or necklec using metal-specific jewellery cleaner. It is advised that you do not immerse the leather in water or any other liquid as it is porous and will become damaged. Simply using a damp cloth you wipe the leather clean is sufficient. Regular use of leather creams and oils can help prevent staining.

Cautions

Always carefully read the instructions on every Jewellery Cleaner solutions, as prolonged immersion in solutions can damage your jewellery.

Always rinse and dry jewellery after using any sort of solution or detergent.

Do not use jewellery cleaning solution to clean jewellery items made of:

  • Emerald

  • Pearl

  • Opal

  • Coral

  • Tanzanite

  • Peridot

  • Turquoise

  • Paste Stones

  • Costume Jewellery

  • Items with water-soluble fixing.

Do not use liquid solutions to clean plated jewellery.

Never use cleaning solutions for un-specified jewellery types:

 

Gold and Diamond Jewellery Cleaner should only be used to clean Gold (not suitable for gold plated items).

 

Silver cleaning solution should only be used to clean Sterling Silver (not suitable for silver plated items)
